JOB SUMMARY - The Credentialing Specialist performs a variety of Credentialing and Administrative Support tasks for the Medical Staff Office. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Responds to requests from other hospitals, managed care organizations, physician offices, etc. requesting verification of staff membership and privileges
  • Responsible for the processing and preparation of Pre-Applications and Applications for membership and/or privileges on the Medical Staff and/or Allied Health Professional Staff
  • Maintains physician and allied health practitioner files and assist with the reappointment process
  • Maintains practitioner database and provider dictionary
  • Assists/Participates in the Joint Commission Survey process as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • CPCS and/or CPMSM Certification Preferred or commitment to pursue certification
  • Have experience with JCAHO survey process and be able to participate in compliance with JCAHO standards
  • Three years of clerical experience required
  • Machine transcription experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the credentialing process
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation standards, federal and state regulatory and licensing requirements, and requirements of the National Practitioner Data Bank.
