JOB SUMMARY:     The Physician Assistant sees patients, performs exams, makes diagnosis, provides treatment, and performs minor surgery under the supervision of a physician according to state law.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:        

  • Obtains history on patient.
  • Performs complete or partial physical examination.
  • Analyzes data and makes diagnosis.
  • Provides treatment (includes prescription drugs).
  • Educates patients: (i.e. exercise program, modification of diet, risk reduction).
  • Supervises the work of the nurse.
  • Makes appropriate referrals (e.g. cardiology, OBGYN, ENT specialists).
  • Consults supervision physician(s) when necessary.
  • Performs minor surgery (e.g. suturing, I & D abscess).
  • Meet CME requirements (100 hours every 2 years) includes CPR and ACLS certification.
  • Return phone calls from patients.
  • Assist with sports physicals/event management for local high schools.

QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. Degree Science, 2 years PA Program at Medical School, 100 hours CME every 2 years; 1 - 2 years experience in primary care setting
