JOB SUMMARY:     The Billing & Collections Specialist sends all electronic claims, paper claims, follow-up all unpaid claims, post payments, verify Medicaid eligibility, filing and other clerical duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Post all payments from mail; insurance, personal, etc
  • Prints claims to be processed
  • Submits electronic claims
  • Corrects claims before rebilling
  • Handles accounts with outstanding balances
  • Calls insurance companies to follow-up on unpaid claims
  • Handles problem claims
  • Makes adjustments, write-offs, corrections on accounts
  • Reviews insurance companies E.O.B.'s
  • Runs daily reports for follow-up on outstanding claims
  • Keeps daily logs on reasons that insurance companies deny claims
  • Handles calls about accounts or billing questions
  • Files insurance claims and ensure that they are handled in a timely manner
  • Runs monthly statements
  • Sends out collection letters
  • Handles financial agreements between patients and office
  • Ensures physician signed with applicable managed care organizations.  Keeps status/update of physicians managed care contracts.
  • Attends seminars and meeting involving insurance companies
  • Fills in at front office when needed
  • Fills in at back office when needed                            

QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent; Previous experience in a physicians practice or clinic needed.
